New chance to help improve internet across the islands

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – How fast is your internet connection?
The state is hoping to find out in order to identify areas where connectivity improvements are needed.
Oct. 22 through Nov. 4 the Connect Kakou Initiative will run 30-second internet speed tests to map underserved areas across the islands.
The state says results from their program, ‘Digital Detectives’, will show them where to prioritize creating internet infrastructure and where to allocate federal funding.
The Hawaii Department of Education (DOE) and public charter middle schools are encouraging students to participate in ‘Digital Detectives’ to learn more about digital equity.
Participating classrooms will be entered to win prizes.
